Eco Factor: Zero emission electric car made from recycled materials.

The Balanced-Over-Batteries, or B.O.B car is an ingenious contraption developed by Robert Lange, a retired auto mechanic from California.

The B.O.B car was designed following the example of skateboard trucks which use the tilting movement of the board to adjust the angle of the wheels, therefore providing the ability to steer. The vehicle gets its name from the fact the batteries are slung underneath the single passenger cockpit. During cornering the batteries act as a counterbalance to the leaning of the vehicle’s passenger compartment – up to 45 degrees in tight turns! This clever balancing act means that no power steering is needed and the steering wheel can be turned easily from side-to-side with the palm of the hand.

The vehicle has two speeds, which can be switched by altering the voltage reaching the motors from 36 – 72 volts. The use of reclaimed materials pulled down the cost of the vehicle considerably, and the designer claims that the total cost of the vehicle came in at around $500.

yeah, the first EC car sold here in our country costs PhP 600,000… approximately, $13,000, simply far too expensive that this one.. but then if this will be mass produced, its cost will go higher for sure.

VISHAL April 15, 2010 at 5:30 pm

Yeah… Is it really $500 ???

Ellen Joy Castel April 17, 2010 at 1:34 am

ohh.. the $500 is just the cost of building the car, not the selling price

Dany April 9, 2010 at 8:04 pm

you must be kidding me.. 500$??

Reply

Ellen Joy Castel April 17, 2010 at 4:28 pm

nope.. it is $500 – but that’s not the selling price.. that’s only the total amount the creator spent in building his car out of recycled materials for more than 3 years…

$500 is definitely a cheap price for a car… however, let’s take note of the fact that it only covered the expenses for the reclaimed materials. If this model would be mass produced, for sure, the price would increase so as to cover for the labor, manufacturing expenses, taxes, etc..

Efficiency, low cost, and cute, too. How easy is it to maintain? Looks like a GREAT buy!!

Most electric cars would have to be recharged for 8 hours so as to acquire much energy equivalent to “full tank”

Reply

VISHAL April 14, 2010 at 4:18 pm

So we can easily put it for 8 hours of charging

Reply

Ellen Joy April 14, 2010 at 10:49 pm

yup. but that’s not as convenient as stopping by a gas station and having your tank filled in just a matter of minutes

yup.. and it may be hard to find help with regards to the maintenance and repair of these vehicles since it’s a new technology and not much people are familiar with how it works

VISHAL April 14, 2010 at 4:19 pm

But they can provide all the services I guess

Reply

Ellen Joy April 14, 2010 at 10:51 pm

That’s a good start.. but if that would happen then the costs of the electric cars would probably go up

VISHAL April 15, 2010 at 5:33 pm

Yeah You are rite ..They will charge some extra amount of money

Ellen Joy Castel April 17, 2010 at 1:39 am

I think when these cars are finally put into commercial use, they will end up as expensive as the usual cars we use now…or maybe cheaper, but not as cheap as we want it to be..
